A Brief History
Scott E. McDonald
Originally from the Mojave Desert town of Palmdale, California, Scott began drawing and painting at a young age following along with television personalities of the 1960’s. During his formative years his passion for art continued as he searched out to learn about as many aspects of the arts as he could.

Early Years
Scott’s formal education in the arts began at age 10 with a class in oil painting in summer school. Scott continued with his art education in public school while augmenting his education through the Famous Artist Schools Correspondence Course. His interest in animation was piqued during High School and he worked on several independent projects along with his painting and drawing. While in High School Scott was Club President for the Art club for three and half years.
Thirst for Everything Art
Scott added photography to his list of skills and dabbled in film making with the family 8mm movie camera. His interest in motion arts carried over into College with Scott assisting in setting up the first Video Production lab and special interest group.
Today
Scott completed his Landscape and Floral instruction at the Bob Ross Studios in 2021. Scott has also studied under Steve Ross, Bob Ross’s son.
Scott’s personal interest in painting is Seascapes fostered by his 20 year Navy career. Scott has walked on beaches all over the world observing the interaction of water and land and finds painting seascapes very calming and relaxing. If his painting is not a seascape, there will be water somewhere, a subconscious reaction to growing up in the desert.
In 2023 Scott completed his second career with the Department of Defense and he and his wife Debra retired to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Scott opened his "Scotty Paints Art Workshop and Studio" on 1 June 2024.
Scott’s art has been displayed in Virginia at the Stonebridge Open Space Arts Gallery in the Stonebridge Town Center, Woodbridge, Virginia and the Clearbrook Gallery at Tackett’s Mill, Lake Ridge, Virginia. Scott is the recipient of three “Public Choice” awards for his seascapes.
